Welcome to the Community School District 18 blog, "P.U.S.H." (Partnering Until Success Happens for all children). The Community School District 18 consist of a partnership between the school, parents and the community: Our Community Superintendent oversees and supports elementary and middle schools in District 18. She performs statutory duties for each school, including appointing principals in district schools, acting as rating officer for principals in the district, approving teacher tenure decisions, and approving school budgets.

The Superintendent also support communities by communicating with District Leadership Teams (DLTs), Presidents’ Councils, and Parent Associations (PA/PTAs), liaising with Community Education Councils (CECs) and the Citywide Council of High Schools (CCHS), and supervising Family Leadership Coordinators and Family Support Coordinators.

District Leadership Team Members: The required members of District Leadership Teams (DLT) are: the community superintendent, the high school superintendent(s), a Council of Supervisors and Administrators (CSA) representative, a United Federation of Teachers (UFT) representative, a DC 37 representative, the president of the District Presidents’ Council, the president of the borough high school Presidents’ Council, and the chairperson of the Title I District Parent Advisory Council. DLTs may also include Community Based Organizations and the president of the district CEC.

Community Superintendents

The 32 Community Superintendents supervise the principals of elementary and middle schools in each school district. Each school district, including District 75 (Special Education Schools), also has a Family Support Coordinator and a Family Leadership Coordinator who are supervised by the Superintendent.

Family Support Coordinators and Family Leadership Coordinators

Family Support Coordinators are a single, dedicated point of contact for families in the Community and High School districts, and will work across the system to address and resolve issues and concerns. They provide information for the community and support the resolution of family inquiries and concerns. They provide information to families to increase awareness about academic standards and school resources and develop helpful connections with schools.

Family Leadership Coordinators provide information for the community and support school and district parent leadership structures, including PA/PTAs, School Leadership Teams, District Leadership Teams, Title I Committees, Community Education Councils and the District Presidents’ Council.
